Squiggle Vision for After Effects
A downloadable After Effects Preset
Squiggle Vision is a style of animation made popular by Soup2Nuts, who created shows like Dr Katz and Home Movies.
The original squiggle vision was a quasi-animation tool that would undulate line art to create an artificial line boil. This would make a shot more lively, especially considering shots in Home Movies were usually 1 pose.
This version is a homebrewed version that I made as a preset in After Effects. It started as a tool to create outlines wherever you liked, which you can still do (switch off "boil"), since After Effects is quite picky over where the Stroke effect works. I decided to add a line boil effect, so here we are!
The preset comes with 4 controls intended to be manipulated:
- Size - how big the stroke is.
- Color - what color the stroke is.
- Boil - whether or not the stroke should boil.
- Speed - how fast the line boils.
However, feel free to tinker with it how you want!
